(Analyst notes: The goal may be a good idea for America.... or not. First, the motive appears to be the recent oil spill. A mess in dealing with energy is not sufficient reason to change all of the nation's energy dependences. First, the physics:  the availability of enough wind and solar energy to power the nation is quesitonable at the least. The unintended consequences of such a shift are potentially huge. Thermodynamics promises pollution in any generation system. Second, the economics of this are not likely to be attractive. If we were technically close enough to do this, businesses would have been born and pushed to make it happen. Unfortunately, the energy developed in experimental wind and solar farms is incredibly more costly than current fossile fules. So we should burden our economy with double or triple the cost of energy, because Obama is embarressed by a single oil spill he can not manage? Wake up, child, this is not simply done because you want it done.)
