CSIA Analyst Notes:  TRENDS…. It is useful to sum up a big picture from the open source intelligence gathered in the last couple of weeks.  There is currently an emerging a theme of potential future violence for our nation. 

THE STRING OF RECENT EVENTS:

Wise people see trends before they mature. Numerous events on a single theme at the same time period may be related, not simply coincidental.  So, consider what has happened recently:

• Several administration and Congressional allusions to reported violence, or feared violence on the part of “Tea Party” people and other opposition groups. Accusations of racism against conservative media, groups, and individuals.
   
• Reports of preemptive police and FBI action against suspected future sources of violence (in Minnesota and Oregon). These have included seizure of property and arrests for “plans” to use violence.
   
• Executive Orders anticipating the need to shut down Internet sites and services in the event of violence giving the Executive branch such authority.
   
• Institution of new “police” organizations in the Health Care law. These include hiring 16,000 new IRS enforcement agents and establishment of a force 6000 reserve medical personnel to be called up in case of emergency which has been compared to re-establishment of the draft… but for doctors only.
   
• Reports that the CIA is imminently expecting Israel to attack Iran to deny this Islamic theocracy any nuclear weapons.
   
• Thirty governors have received threatening letters telling them to resign in 3 days or be removed from office. The group reportedly responsible seems to have a focus on reducing government size. Interesting conjunction of thought here: reducing government size and homeland terrorists.
   
• Withdrawal of “Minute Man” volunteers from our southern border because that organization wants to avoid citizen involvement in what it anticipates as new and massive across-border violence.
   
• Sizable purchase of firearms by the Department of Education and other non-policing agencies. These purchases have included shotguns with barrels shortened below standards legal for average citizens. Why does an education agency need stores of weapons?
   
• Governmental directives to stop a longstanding practice of sale of spent cartridges to American manufacturers who use spent brass cartridges for reloading of ammunition at a reduced cost “to prevent the potential for home grown terrorists to arm themselves.” Doing kills numerous jobs and makes shooting sports more expensive.
   
• The State Department is attempting to bind the US by joining in treaties that make gun registration mandatory and private gun ownership more onerous in an attempt to get around the Constitutional right to own and bear arms. Legislative bans would be trumped by treaty obligations. It is an end-run around the Constitution.
   
• There seems to be a continuing asymmetry in this homeland security violence thing.  The FBI is raiding “Christian” radical groups but over 30 Muslim paramilitary training camps are still operating in the US.
   
• Considerable public reaction against health care legislation has been ignored by the lawmakers (demonstrations, letters, petitions, publications, personal visits, town hall input, media publicity, national polls) who have rushed through legislation while not going into effect for years. This rush, the secrecy of the development of the legislation, the public display of disagreement, and the ugly vote buying --- have lead to anger and backlash from the public and state governments.
   
• State-based opposition to many Federal actions are generating opposition like never before. States are filing lawsuits and passing laws over the obligations they are saddled with in ObamaCare, over Federal land control and non-use in Western states, and over gun control legislation.  Laws are being passed in states that are aimed directly at preventing Federal imposition of laws and seek judicial review to overturn or modify them. One would think that broken Federal promises to the Indian nations of the last century are being echoed in broken Federal promises to the States!

 CONCLUSIONS:

It seems the Federal government and especially the administration has an anticipation of violence in the future and is preparing its options and controls, where possible. At the same time they have taken down many protections for the nation against foreign violence…. By withdrawing missile protection from much of Europe, unilateral reduction in nuclear weapons, restriction on troop use and troop re-enforcements in critical theaters of war, strong signals of threats against effective intelligence gathering at home and abroad, abrogation of long-standing relations with allies around the world, apology tours to enemy nations, misguided prosecution of terrorists along with assuring enhanced rights for captured terrorists, confusing the national debate about terror threats by insisting on using politically correct language (defined by the Muslim Brotherhood and its many affiliates, like CAIR), confusing the nature of the threat to America by failing to recognize and address its doctrinal and ideological components, and last of all by weakening the nation economically with poor policies and inattention while furthering polarization in all dimensions imaginable.

Is  the nation is being groomed for coming violence (internal and/or external). Is the government positioning itself to “take advantage of a good crisis” when it comes? One can only hope Americans will avoid violence and work toward a strong nation, economy, and defense. We need our Executive branch and Legislative branch to put aside their paranoid self-concern and their urge to control for a new level of concern for national security. Current signposts are not good and the nation needs its Federal government to put us in a safer place quickly. A weaken economy could make successful reactive protection a problem. We need to prepare proper national security now.
