Dr. Hamid suggests that perhaps we need to expand the locations of our fight -- we " [...] need to think outside traditional warfare tactics and a territorial way thinking when we deal with the phenomenon of Islamist radicalism and terrorism." He is certainly NOT suggesting that we ignore or underestimate the physical threat of this enemy.
In this article Dr. Hamid is suggesting that we expand our fight to include this enemy's mind. This is certainly a long-term solution, but required to keep them from reconstituting once defeated. He talks about somehow helping to assure that the Muslim youth gain an education that promotes love and harmony before they are exposed to the jihadist. Considering the teachings as to what is "right" and "wrong" as it is presently provided within too many of the Muslim homes as a results of the ideological system under which they are now tutored, that will prove to be a mighty task and one that will not be accomplished overnight.
For those who are already "infected" with "political Islam," and by their choice are engaged in the fight to subjugate or destroy us, we still need to increase the rate at which they are introduced to their awaiting "72 virgins." I know it is not politically correct, but we might consider .... how does that old statement go? Something about ... "and their hearts and minds are sure to follow." We must face reality and make it a national objective to identify and confront the "radical" imams who teach the hate causing the problem and like the cancer that they are, "take them out" along with those who directly support and recruit for them. This will take a coordinated effort with the non-radical elements of Islam.
