Analyst's note: Absolutely must read and carefully consider. Our elected federal officials have much serious work required to protect this United States. Where are our priorities? We are all living at a time when we simply must understand this Islamist enemy that we face. They are killers, actually planning to implement Armageddon with whom we can not negotiate. BTW, political correctness regarding their actions is not a strategy that will save this nation, as this enemy plans to implement a world ruled with sharia law under a caliphate. The concerns expressed in this referenced article are related to the potential production of radioactive weapons using stolen nuclear material which thievery may be assisted by rogue scientists. Said to be as a result of WikiLeaks, The Daily Telegraph has thousands of "[....] papers that detail the international struggle to stop the spread of weapons-grade material nuclear, chemical and biological material around the globe.[....] by criminal and terrorist gangs who are trafficking large amounts of highly radioactive material across Europe, Africa and the Middle East." Some of the specific concerns also relate to anthrax, foot and mouth disease and avian flu to develop lethal biological weapons capable of being released via shop-bought aerosol can in a crowded area. Delivery methods could obviously include "suicide bombers."
One must question if our hospitals prepared and associated supplies are available and properly staged. The Islamist jihadists enemy will use such weapons when they have them. The question posed is a good one. When hospitals are hard pressed to control workplace violence, how will they deal with potential insider terrorist threats? Think about it. A coordinated attack could also include hitting our medical community and thus multiply the impact of the attack.
The growing concern discussed in this article is that Islamist jihadist will reasonably target American hospitals as a part of their growing soft-target list using a “Mumbai like attacks.” Such attacks from small cells are much simpler to plan, fund, and execute than one huge, centrally planned attack. We reported earlier that on 7 October, 2010, a Hill Newspaper article “Top House Dems warn U.S. ' Unprepared for dirty bomb attack'.” Some issues like reported in this article really get me "fired up." We find that the concerns about a dirty bomb (RDD or Radiological Dispersion Device) are all too real. We once again learn from our federal government that America is unprepared for such an attack. "The Defense Science Board in its 2007 report, Summer Study on Challenges to Military Operations in Support of National Interests (pdf document, p 19) , identified the over 1000 cesium-137 closed containers with 1,000 Ci* or greater as the dominant radiological dispersal device (RDD) ”Dirty Bomb” threat to the nation. Terrorist penetration of these sources and subsequent explosion could shut down 25 square kilometers anywhere in the United states for 40 or more years”.
At their nation's frantic request, following an unprecedented attack on September 11, 2001, federal authorities came together to produce a report on the attack against the the United States for which we were totally unprepared. How could this have happened and what can we do to avoid similar tragedies? Through Public Law 107-306, dated November 27, 2002, the Congress and the President created the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.
In a long nine years after 9/11, Americans are still thinking and talking about how to protect our nation against the global Islamist jihadist threat. Well kind of ... until our federal government stopped using such words in order not to offend our enemy. The national debate does however continue.
We now hear of a Senate Judiciary subcommittee who will assess our government's preparedness for yet another terrorist attack. This time the concern is weapons of mass destruction used against us in the wake of yet another report -- this time the report calls our U.S. Justice Department planning inadequate with three failing grades on preparedness for weapons of mass destruction used against us.
We have not forgotten the recent string of failures of our federal government. Such events as the murders at Fort Hood, and two failed bombing attacks - one on NW Flight 253 and their other in a crowded Times Square -- all by jihadist. The Times Square attack, had it been properly prepared would have again killed thousands of innocent American citizens, so confirms our FBI.
Once again we learn that American citizens are without adequate protection from our federal government. Now it is our Department of Justice we learn unprepared. This is the same group that is not protecting our borders against illegal immigrants. We are not talking about a little tweak here. The grade was reported as "F." How many more "reports" are waiting in the wings that will formally point out that our federal government is unprepared.
“The Department of Justice as a whole…has not implemented adequate WMD response plans. As a result, the Department is not fully prepared to provide a coordinated response to a WMD incident,” the report said.
If that were not enough, we learn of an unprepared Congress as pointed out in this statement, were we must "[...] educate lawmakers about the seriousness of the threat posed by WMDs [...]." We are also advised that:
"[....] The Obama administration received mixed grades in the January report, including three Fs, for failure to prepare effectively for a biological attack, failure to recruit and train a new generation of national security experts and failure to reform congressional oversight on intelligence and national security."
According to Senator Joe Lieberman, “The threat of nuclear terrorism is growing faster than our ability to prevent an attack on our homeland.” At the insistence of "We the People" of this United States, our elected federal government officials clearly must return to their duties assigned them in the U.S. Constitution and spend their time attending to the protection and defense of this republic (defending life, liberty, and protection of property), especially while we are at war -- and stop worrying about how to redistribute what wealth we have left.
In the days prior to the resurgence of the global Islamist jihad, as stated years ago by Gen. Lewis Walt, USMC (Retired) in his book published in 1979 entitled, "The Eleventh Hour" on page xiii, our objectives as citizens are to:
"[...] 1. to purge the Congress of the forces of appeasement and surrender which are pulling us toward war or slavery; and 2. replace them with men and women of integrity and common sense who will restore our military superiority, the only coin with which we can buy the time for diplomacy to work.
The destiny of the American people belongs in our hands, not in the hands of foreign tyrants. Will you join me in the fight to return it to our shores?"
Gen. Walt went on to say on page 98 of his book:
"I think the future of our country boils down to this simple proposition: either we as Americans will assume the responsibilities of citizenship or or nation, as the land of the free, will be destroyed. [....] We are living in a time of crisis, when the fate of our nation will be determined within a few short years."
