Dear Chief Justice Roberts:
I just watched Chris Wallace on Fox, as he discussed the one-sided confrontation between The Supreme Court, and the President of the United States. I must say that I was appalled when that happened, especially since the Congress, at least in great part, joined him in his attack.
I realize that protocol, ethics, and common courtesy prevailed, as the members of The Court, sat there in a self-inflicted, muted (non) response. At least Justice Alito tacitly mouthed the words “not true!” The President, as well as the Congress, certainly has the prerogative to disagree with the findings of The Court; and I do not challenge their right to do so! However, I do challenge the efficacy of using the awesome power of The President, to dress down, an equal member of the Governmental Triumvirate, which is the Government of the United States in toto.
The President attacked The Court, as he quite effectively held them captive, that was most inappropriate, and his choice of venue was similarly poorly chosen, or was it? Did the President attack, knowing that there could be no immediate defense? I am very disappointed that you seemingly have forgotten that “you”, meaning The Court in the aggregate, is an equal partner with both The President, and The Congress, in the government of this Nation! You failed the Constitution most miserably, when you did not respond to this totally unwarranted attack, after choosing a venue appropriate to such a response. I am not inferring in any way that you needed to justify the actions of The Court, nor to render an apology. Your “lecture” of The President should have concerned itself with etiquette, and his seemingly ignorance of the need to understand common decency!
The Constitution is universally acknowledged to be “The Law of the Land”, and The Supreme Court is the ultimate arbiter of Constitutional confliction, and the final facilitator of Constitutionally tested law! The Court need not stand in awe, not of The President, and neither of The Congress, The Court is their equal! Having said that, I would also criticize The Court for failing to exercise its Constitutional Authority in reminding both The President, and The Congress, that they are currently treading very dangerously upon the Constitution! The Court needs to be heard on this matter, and immediately so. There are no proscriptions that I can find in the Constitution that prevents The Court from acting unilaterally in the interest of the Constitution, and “We the People!” Where does it say in the Constitution, that The Court cannot “remind” the other Branches of the Government, about the Constitutional constraints upon their official activities; especially when it is quite obvious to all that they are in violation?
In closing I must say that I was disturbed to watch the President abuse The Court, and even more so when The Congress joined with him in doing so. I am even more disturbed that The Court has essentially remained mute, in tacit acceptance of The President?s abuse. And I am disgusted, as The Court continues to fail the Constitution, and “We the People”, by failing to speak out, as this openly anti Constitution President, and his fellow ideologues in the Congress who share his socialistic views, simply ignore the Constitution! We deserve better Your Honor, and “you” certainly can do better!
