(Analyst's note:  Absolutely must read.  Please consider searching "illegal" within this site for additional insight.  See ... I knew American's would understand the concept of "illegal.")

Everyone is chattering about the new Arizona law that was signed by Gov. Jan Brewer on April 23. The law is so controversial that even Meghan McCain and "Saturday Night Live" shelled out their "legal expertise" on the matter. This law makes illegal immigration, without proper registration documents, a crime. Many people are shocked by this law, but shocked at what? Oh Em Gee, illegal immigration is a crime! Some opponents have come out swinging, saying this new law violates the rights of Arizona citizens and encourages racial profiling. Hey, if asking to see appropriate documentation assures people will be punished for their crime of living in this country illegally, I say go for it. The law demands that there be probable cause to question someone anyway, so what is everyone so afraid of?

This law was signed shortly after President Obama explained the federal government should do more to secure our borders and advised states to sit tight, basically, and leave the enforcement of immigration law to the feds. It is my belief that Arizona, along with other states, is tired of waiting. The frustration is understandable considering the recent Arizona headlines and the fact that the governor has been pleading with the feds over the past couple of years concerning this problem. And yes, illegal immigration is a problem. Consider Robert Krentz, an Arizona rancher who was slain by an illegal alien in March. Krentz was known to offer a helping hand to illegal immigrants who were injured or needed assistance. Look at the thanks he got. Obama admits that the federal government has failed to protect this country from illegal aliens and now wants to set things right, but I think Arizona did just fine on its own. Besides, Obama's good at talking the talk, but so far has been unsuccessful in walking the walk. Shouldn't states be able to determine what is right for them, especially states that border Canada and Mexico? They are dealing with this problem firsthand. Perhaps if our government had acknowledged this problem and acted on it sooner, Arizona wouldn't have to take matters into its own hands.

"Saturday Night Live" compared Arizona policy to the Nazi regime during its weekend update segment saying, "I know there are some people in Arizona who are worried that Obama's acting like Hitler, but can we all agree that there's nothing more Nazi than saying, 'Show me your papers.' Every time someone says, 'Show me your papers,' Hitler's family gets a residual check." Now, I know SNL is a comedy show and it's the last place I would take political cues from aside from "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," but many people feel this law is unconstitutional and mirrors Nazi Germany. Do I need to remind them that Arizona police won't execute those who don't have proper documentation? The police aren't going to place illegal aliens in concentration camps. So where's the correlation between this law and the Nazis? Besides that, I don't think Holocaust survivors appreciate being compared to criminals. Again, this was a comedy program, but that doesn't mean the extreme comparison won't be taken seriously by the general population.

Not everyone understands the difference between entertainment news and reality, which leads me to Meghan McCain. She said the law was "essentially a license to pull someone over for being Hispanic." Yeah Meghan, that's exactly what the law says (cue the eye roll). Sounds like you've got it all figured out, and we can all go home now. She's overlooked a minor detail: Not all illegal immigrants are Hispanic. She, like most, has brought race into a discussion where it doesn't belong. Arizona is taking action against a crime that has infected its state. That doesn't make it racist. This law will pave the way for other states to take a stand. This law was put into place to punish those who come into this country illegally, period. Meghan has generalized. Frankly, I think her comment is racist and throws what little credibility, earned by her father, right out the window. Then again, I've come not to expect much from a liberal in sheep's clothing.

Here's something to reflect on before bad-mouthing Arizona's decision: According to the Arizona Resistance website, just four years ago 83 percent of warrants for murder in Phoenix were for illegal aliens. With a stat like that, I'm surprised they didn't implement this sooner. I don't blame Arizona one bit for what it's doing. Finally, we have a state with some guts. Bottom line, anyone living in the United States illegally should be deported. It's not a race thing, it's a criminal thing. Arizona has decided to take action against a heinous crime that is raping our nation of its right to flourish safely. Do I think all illegal immigrants are criminals? Yes! To a certain extent, they all are criminals, hence the "illegal" part. But do I think all illegal immigrants are dangerous criminals? Of course not. For the most part, I believe that some just want a better life. But does that mean taking advantage of the country that is providing that life? That's my dose of honesty for this week.
