Analyst's note:  Absolutely must read.  As some would say, we have real trouble brewing in river city, and it is only getting worse.  Our border with Mexico can not continue to be ignored.  Despite the most recent "spin" about successes, our Department of Homeland Security demonstrates again and again  that it is not.  In my book, it is time for Janet Napolitano and others to find another job.  May I suggest President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder all need to be provided their walking papers - we hire'em and we fire'em.  We can, we must do better that this.

It’s why I’m thinking that what’s occurring along the border is more like an insurgency than a war on drugs, i.e. the cartels are specifically targeting law officers and not each other. What now happening along our national border with Mexico has very strong parallels with what’s happening in Afghanistan, and our state and local law enforcement officers are not equipped and trained for handling this type of mission on a large scale. Evidently neither is the Mexican government.

In addition to the  information provided below, we are also aware of a 2006 congressional report on border threats, titled "A Line in the Sand: Confronting the Threat at the Southwest Border" and prepared by the House Committee on Homeland Security Subcommittee on Investigations.  This report points out that 1.2 million illegal aliens were apprehended 10 years ago (2005).  At least 165,000 of those apprehended were from countries other than MexicoApproximately 650 were from "special interest countries," or nations that our Border Patrol defines as "designated by the intelligence community as countries that could export individuals that could bring harm to our country in the way of terrorism."

According to the Department of Homeland Security's 2008 Yearbook of Immigration Studies, from the Office of Immigration Statistics, federal law enforcement agencies detained 791,568 deportable aliens in fiscal year 2008 – and 5,506 of them were from 14 "special-interest countries."

WSB-TV 2 in Atlanta, Georgia published a population breakdown from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement staging facility in Florence, Ariz., dated April 15, 2010  This report identifies that detainees -- likely Musliims jihadist from, what some call special interest countries -- as far away as Afghanistan, Armenia, Bosnia, Egypt, Ghana, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kenya, Morocco, Pakistan, Sudan, Uzbekistan, Yemen, Botswana, Turkey and many other countries.

"With the exception of, perhaps, Texas governor Rick Perry, no public official wants to publicly admit an obvious fact: The United States of America will likely be forced to invade Mexico. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. [....]

For many of us, there is a certain false security in believing that, since most of America’s streets are not filled with the murder and mayhem that is going on just South of our borders, we have nothing to worry about. The feeling that most Americans likely have is: Well, it’s their problem, not ours. However, that illusion of security is quickly being eroded with the stories of American police officers being threatened by Mexican drug cartels, of kidnappings and drug murders in Arizona and Texas, of control of certain parts of Arizona and forays into New Mexico and Colorado by drug cartels, of teenagers being turned into hitmen, and American tourists being kidnapped or killed while on vacation in Mexico.
