Analyst's note: Absolutely must read and carefully consider. We have a few questions that must be addressed. During this time of economic crisis, who is going to pay for the rapid destruction of our national road & bridge infrastructure - already known to be deteriorating -- as these big trucking rigs move across our nations highways? How many Americans will die on our own roads as a result of this agreement? How does this help to ensure that the Mexican drug cartels do not gain increased access to our nation? Exactly what is Mexico manufacturing and shipping that they need to cross our nation with so many big trucking rigs?
What impact does this have on U.S. truckers? Does any of the proposed cargo include dangerous chemicals being moved through or near our population areas? What will be the pollution impact? How will we ensure that the trucks are not simply loaded with illegal immigrants and then used to further seed them across our nation?
Why are we not hearing about this in our national news media? When a major problem occurs, how do we fix it? Will we all need a Mexican phone book and a new language to handle the problems that are soon headed our way? Why is our "standard" media not asking these questions? What organizations and individuals are pressuring our gov't officials to accept or reject this arrangement? What methods are being used against and probably in some cases "for" our politicians?
In addition to the questions above, you can bet we will see a significant reduction of our national security. Is DHS and their TSA agents going to check each driver and each rig? If not, then why not...at each state line? Am I the only one who has noticed that members of Hezbollah (Islamist jihadists) look just like a Mexican or Lebanese?
Through this Mexican trucking program we will have increased the chance that our nation could be populated with the Russian-made "Club K" missile delivery systems. This increases the potential impact on our nation, to include the targeting of our major cities or special manufacturing areas. This system can be used to strike by land and sea by placing cruise missiles into any type of 40 foot container. This "Club K" missile delivery system could also be used to guarantee targeting our naval shipping that is "in port." With a range of about 136 miles, they can be fired from a safe distance from the border or the distance can be minimized by driving closer to the U.S. targets.
What are our national "leaders" thinking? If I can conceive of it, you can be sure that our nation's enemies are thinking about it. When will the people in Washington wake up? When will it be too late if we don't wake them up? If these concerns mentioned above are not of interest to you, then just go back to sleep.
Borders actually mean something. When are we going to use them for our own national defense? Talk about destruction from within ...
"Department of Transportation officials and the U.S. trade representative's office are in Mexico this week negotiating final details of a renewed Mexican truck demonstration project with the goal of allowing foreign long-haul loads to roam U.S. roads by summer.
The starting point for negotiations between Mexico and the United States was a "Concept Document" the DOT published on its website called "Phased U.S.-Mexico Cross Border Long Haul Trucking Proposal."
The George W. Bush administration launched a highly controversial demonstration project, but in March 2009, President Obama signed the $410 billion Omnibus Funding Bill that included provisions withdrawing funds from the DOT with the goal of terminating the program.
[....] Mexico wants the Obama administration to agree to open U.S. roads to Mexican long-haul rigs under a plan that could not stopped once again by congressional action.
The DOT's present plans are to operate under existing statutory authority and proceed with a phased-in pilot program that may run for a maximum of three years. After that, the DOT would be required to evaluate the success of the program before granting long-haul authority to additional Mexican carriers.
[....] Mexico still lacks a reliable federal system of conducting background checks before it issues commercial driver's licenses. There also is evidence Mexican trucks and drivers operate without complying with the drug testing standards, driver physical requirements and safety inspection procedures that U.S. truck drivers are forced to meet.[....]"
