Analyst notes: It is amazing where being politically correct can take us. In the UK another advance in the war against embarrassment has surfaced. We don't want people to feel hurt when their efforts fail. Winners must be kept from showing us all that they are better. Specifically, an annual garden club in the UK has asked a perennial winner to not participate this year as he is discouraging others with his vegetables. The 73 year old gardener, David Stirzaker of North Cadbury and District Horticultural Society, was offended that he was asked to withdraw because of 12 cups over 4 years.
We can hope to find such wisdom in our own leaders in America. We do not want businesses and individuals who are successful to embarrass losers like GM, Bank of America, Lehman Brothers, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc. No, we must get those horridly exemplary organizations and individuals out of business and out of sight. Tax them down, regulate them, harass, and demonize them. Why would America ever want to have true winners out there? What is there to learn from "the best" anyway? Yep, we could likely emulate the UK and ask our winners to withdraw here too.
